H.M. the King of Spain Felipe VI inaugurates UNIE University, the new university of Planeta Formación y Universidades in Madrid
H.M. the King of Spain, Felipe VI has inaugurated UNIE University, the new academic institution of Planeta Formación y Universidades in the Community of Madrid; a university that was created with the aim of responding to a labour market in constant evolution, whose official undergraduate, double degree and postgraduate courses are taught at two campuses, the first in the town of Tres Cantos and the second, in Calle Arapiles, an urban campus located in the historic neighbourhood of Chamberí.
The ceremony took place at the UNIE University campus in Tres Cantos and was presided over by H.M. the King of Spain, Felipe VI. It was attended by Joan Subirats, Minister of Universities, Jesús Moreno, Mayor of Tres Cantos; the President of Grupo Planeta, José Creuheras and the CEO of Planeta Formación y Universidades, Carlos Giménez.
During the gala, Segundo Píriz, rector of UNIE University, presented the new institution as: "A university with an entrepreneurial DNA that combines the acquisition of current and quality knowledge with practical teaching that allows our students to "learn by doing". We strive to make our students feel like professionals from day one, providing them with the tools to grow in a reality oriented towards the world of work".
This was followed by a discussion between the writer, member of the Social Council of UNIE University and winner of the 2016 Planeta Prize, Dolores Redondo, and the presenter of the event, journalist and teacher Helena Resano, on the transformative role of education and culture in today's society.
Dolores Redondo has highlighted, in relation to the scenario of change and the appearance of new technologies, that "critical thinking must be encouraged at all times and tutored by the university". She has also remarked the need to "promote creativity and accompany students on their training path", in reference to the process of linking students with the productive fabric and the world of work.
José Creuheras, President of Grupo Planeta and Atresmedia, finally emphasised Grupo Planeta's commitment to promoting talent and knowledge at all levels: "We are proud and satisfied to inaugurate UNIE University, the new higher education proposal that is born as the backbone of our educational projects in Madrid. UNIE University joins Planeta Formación y Universidades, our international higher education network that each year trains more than 120,000 students all over the world".
After the speeches, H.M. the King of Spain, Felipe VI unveiled the commemorative plaque, officially inaugurating UNIE University, accompanied by José Creuheras, president of Grupo Planeta and Atresmedia, the CEO of Planeta Formación y Universidades, Carlos Giménez and the rector of UNIE, Segundo Píriz.
To conclude the ceremony, H.M. the King of Spain, Felipe VI , accompanied by the authorities, took a tour of the University campus of more than 20,000m2, where he was able to visit some of the most cutting-edge facilities in the Audiovisual area, such as the 191m2 set with a production control room, with virtual reality, and the immersive sound recording studio with Dolby Atmos format, a pioneer in the educational sector, and to meet some of the students and teachers.

This is the proposal of Planeta Formación y Universidades, Grupo Planeta's international higher education network, to build a higher education hub in Madrid. Connecting the financial activity in the heart of the capital with a technology, life sciences and entertainment centre at the forefront of the audiovisual sector, located in the municipality of Tres Cantos.
