Last Friday, the 26th of April, the Universidad Internacional de Valencia awarded the degree of doctor honoris causa to journalist Vicente Vallés Choclán. The ceremony took place at the Palacio de la Exposición in Valencia, where Vallés' outstanding professional career and his remarkable contribution to the current Spanish journalistic scene were highlighted.

The event was attended by various personalities from the cultural, business and educational spheres, such as José Creuheras Margenat, president of Grupo Planeta and Atresmedia; Carlos Giménez, CEO of Planeta Formación y Universidades; and Susana Camarero, second vice-president and regional minister of Social Services, Equality and Housing, among others.

The Rector of the Universidad Internacional de Valencia, Dr. Eva María Giner Larza, presided over the ceremony, while the journalist, Doctor in Law, Journalism and History, and director of the newspaper La Razón, Francisco Marhuenda García, acted as godfather and delivered the laudatio of Vallés' investiture.

Afterwards, Vallés, already invested with the biretta corresponding to his honorary doctorate, gave a speech in which he reflected on the role of journalism in democratic societies, pointing out the importance of ‘spoken journalism’, which he considered to be more ephemeral. He expressed his pride in the recognition received, and indicated that ‘I take it not so much as a recognition of what has been done so far, but as an even stronger commitment to what remains to be done’.

With this investiture, Vicente Vallés joins the distinguished group of honorary doctors of the Universidad Internacional de Valencia, which includes such personalities as Dr. María A. Blasco, the plastic surgeon Dr. Pedro Cavadas, the writer Eduardo Mendoza, or the North American philosopher Carl Mitcham, among others.

It is important to highlight that the organisation, design and production of the event were carried out in line with the values of sustainability and care for the environment defended by the Universidad Internacional de Valencia, using environmentally friendly materials, promoting the local economy and efficiently managing the available resources.
