To promote reading among young people inside and outside the classroom and to raise the profile of the work of teachers in order to strengthen education in Castilla y León. This is one of the main objectives of ‘Enseñamos a Leer’, the competition organised by the Fundación José Manuel Lara and the Universidad Internacional de Valencia, which belongs to Planeta Formación y Universidades, and which for the first time extends to Castilla y León with the support of the Regional Ministry of Education of this community.

The initiative, which was presented this Friday in the sala Fray Pío del Monasterio Nuestra Señora del Prado de Valladolid, and was attended by the Consejera de Educación de Castilla y León, Rocío Lucas Navas; the general director of the Fundación José Manuel Lara, Pablo Morillo Pérez, and the rector of the Universidad Internacional de Valencia, Eva María Giner Larza, has already been implemented in Andalusia, Ceuta, Melilla and the Comunidad Valenciana.

Aimed at all teachers of Pre-school, Primary, Secondary and Baccalaureate Education in the educational network of Castilla y León, ‘Enseñamos a Leer’ promotes innovative projects to encourage the reading habit among the new generations while promoting inclusive, equitable and quality education for all students, who in Castilla y León are at the head of the Spanish communities in Mathematics, Science and Reading, according to the latest PISA 2022 Report published. It is precisely in reading comprehension where the students of Castilla y León have obtained a score above the Spanish average, with 498 points compared to 474 of the rest and the results place them in seventh position in the environment of the OECD and EU countries.
