As a commitment to the internationalisation of knowledge, the Corporación Universitaria Iberoamericana (IBERO) and EAE Business School Barcelona, members of IBERONEX, a network of Planeta Formación y Universidades, won the call for project grants through the International Experts Programme of ICETEX, a Colombian state entity that promotes educational credit and technical studies abroad, with a project whose objective is to strengthen the capacities of young Colombians in Digital Transformation.

The project ‘Business Strengthening through Digital Transformation: Promoting Youth Entrepreneurship and Regional Development in Bolivar’ is supported by the Government of the Department of Bolivar, in the Colombian Caribbean, and the San Buenaventura University (Cartagena section). The Government will select the 100 young people who will participate in this training, and thus link their business models and entrepreneurship with the economic and social development of the region.

The initiative seeks to foster innovation and generate new employment opportunities for 100 young people (between 18 and 22 years old) living in the municipalities of Arjona, Villanueva, Turbaco, Santa Catalina, Clemencia and Santa Rosa de Lima, all located in the Department of Bolivar, on the Caribbean coast of Colombia. The project will prioritise the participation of young women and entrepreneurs with the aim of contributing to closing the gender digital divide and promoting women's empowerment in the region.

This project, which begins with the call and selection of the 100 young beneficiaries of the initiative in October 2024, and the training will run until June 2025, executing the Diploma in Digital Transformation for Entrepreneurs. With a duration of 100 hours, the young people will acquire skills in data analytics, artificial intelligence and other technologies relevant to today's business world; and will develop a Digital Transformation Plan applied to their businesses.

The three academic institutions present in this initiative will contribute their values and knowledge to the development of the project; EAE Business School Barcelona will lead the development of the academic content of the diploma, offering an international vision of the business world and the trends applied in Digital Transformation; the Corporación Universitaria Iberoamericana and the Universidad San Buenaventura will accompany the young people, through mentoring, in the development of their Digital Transformation Plans, taking into account national and local dynamics.

The hundred young people who will be selected for this training will develop the necessary skills so that their ventures can grow and have an impact at the local level, incorporating digital transformation into their business ideas. At the end of the training, the choosen individuals will be able to link their Digital Transformation Plans and their ventures to the policies developed by the Government of Bolivar in its Departmental Development Plan, and have an impact on development, innovation and employment in the region.

With this project, IBERO and EAE Business School Barcelona reaffirm their commitment to the training of entrepreneurial leaders capable of facing the challenges of the digital world. Through this initiative, the aim is to strengthen the entrepreneurial ecosystem of the Colombian Caribbean, promoting sustainable development and generating a positive impact on the region.
